The Outline
Ahhh…. Vienna! The beautiful imperial city on the banks of the River Danube sits and waits expectantly for us to arrive. It is almost two years since I left Portsmouth, UK on a ferry bound for Normandy where I would begin my first cycling adventure around France and now it is time for the second instalment: a journey from Vienna to Paris. In those two years since the first edition of “Le Tour de Fat”, I have moved from the UK back to Melbourne, Australia and managed to pass on the cycling bug to two old school mates, Jon Wadelton and Andrew “Choc” Royal.
And so “Le Tour de Fat” is on again and this time I have some company. Come 4 July this year I will be departing Vienna for a five-week, 2100km cycling odyssey in the company of Jon and Choc. Once again Tommy Henry will be piloting the support vehicle and arranging the petanque tournaments.
The basic plan is to cycle from Vienna to Paris via Germany, Switzerland and the French Alps. We’re not actually sure exactly how far it is from Vienna to Paris and we’ve decided not to put too much effort into finding out. This may seem contrary to any attempt to organise an adventure of this stature, but we feel some things are best left alone and the distance we must ride each day falls neatly into that category.
So, it is time. The bikes are prepped and ready, some light exercise and preparations have been undertaken by the cyclists and Tommy has finalised the AA European Road-Side Assist and bought a miniature bar fridge for the support car. We’re ready to go!
STAY TUNED FOR RIDER PROFILES AND IMPORTANT DATES.
